    New sub here , Old hand at airbrushing though - pushing 70 years , but not slowing down with LEARNING ! 'Been binge watching your REVIEWS , along with a good deal of techniques you employ - - - I've been an experimenter most of my life ! Whatever WORKS , "WORKS" ! Here's a touch of "SMOKE" for you - I'd suggest that 'artists' that deal with inks , dyes , & watercolors "CAN" get away with a small tank compressor - provided they've got the 'learnification' / (experience) , to use an airbrush that can take LOW PSI operation , & can properly thin their material(s) to flow right . Thanks for sharing your time with us - & dispelling so much of the "MARKETING WANK" ! * I ran a ONE MAN sign shop for almost 15 years - mostly using 1-SHOT lettering enamels , ** Back in the 'good ole days ' , when it contained LEAD ! Nothing I've ever sprayed has been it's equal , . . . except MAYBE some of my home brewed 'colored VARNISHES' . . . slick as glass when the formulae is RIGHT ON ! Thanks again , Bill !

      If you practice them a few minutes a day, probably 3-4 weeks to feel comfortable with them. a couple months and they would be very natural. I cant say I bother practicing anymore. But I can lay off for weeks and come back to it. During my slow periods I go days without painting anything. Even weeks. Around the end of the year towards christmas though im painting 7 days a week. These 4 excercises though are fabulous at getting a great deal of ground covered. Combined with some redactive techniques you can get a picture pretty lifelike really fast.

    Thanks for the videos. I just bought my first two airbrushes - badger patriot and anthem. So, to get up to speed I've been watching video tutorials. Anyway, was just listening to videos in the background while organizing my shop, and I heard you mention some Createx products, which peaked my interest because they happen to be the brand I just purchased to start out with. So, I started to listen more intently, and pretty good so far. It might have been nice to have heard some of your airbrush reviews before I bought mine, even though they seem to be sound choices, according to all the other resources I have reviewed. So, thanks again. I'll continue to watch on, as I get the impression that you know what you are talking about.

    Unfortunately, Iwata discontinued these. Is there anything that comes close? I found some of these on clearance and I love them for hand-brush stuff - that perfect combo of fluidity, opaqueness and quick-drying for what I'm trying to do. But I couldn't find them anywhere to get more in colors I didn't have. I contacted Iwata and they confirmed that these are gone now.

      @TheAIRspace 8 днів тому

      Between the time I bought mine and the time i made this video, they no longer sell that set in the USA... Naturally. There is this set, but it does not come with the larger diameter needle packing screw. But it does have grease, nozzle and air tool. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DeAPkdd You can order just the packing wrench and the air valve tool very cheaply. which is what I had for a long time, but the larger diameter tool is the right one for my eclipse. Noone i have found so far makes a 1.3 which some airbrushes use. the 1.2 1.4 combo is the same size iwata uses in their toolkit. The iwata kit is great, And comes with soft pliers and a nice case. But it is pretty expensive. I had one, and left it somewhere long ago. Sooooo i havent replaced it as of yet. :/

    heeeyyy....nice review. i appreciate the psi/timer, which is telling and made me disappointed in the fortress. I was looking at the 2 gall. I'm looking at getting a new compressor, currently have California Air Tools 8010A Aluminum Tank 8 gallon. My thinking was it was quiet enough (its NOT) and the tank size is enough where it doesn't cycle as much (slow leak nothing I can do about it unfortunately so negates teh tank pretty much), which in turn doesn't produce enough heat, which is less water in system, but also out herein Cali 1hp wattage costs a LOT so the less it runs, the btter. So had that compressor for 2 yrs and looking for new one. I guess my wants are too rigorous, I want ultra quiet, large tank size, qualitative build (no slow leak with all my trouble shooting i did). I went from the as186 clone to the CAT one, 1 hp is too much (wattage/loud). (.5) Hp seems good enough since I spray at 15-20psi normally with occasional 25psi so I don't mind having it chug for a min to fill a larger tank (at least 100psi). I have different AB that are different "efficiency" with air (Eclipse to gaahleri ranging from .2-.5) so how 'fast' I drain the tank depends on what I'm doing. My sessions tend to be all day (prime base coat) since I spray many pieces (Master grade Gunpla which ranges from 200-600pcs). I also entertained the thought of retrofitting my CAT one with a diff motor, dunno how 'hard' that would be. Plus I also saw that having the motor on top of the tank makes it louder compared the Fortress setup as example. also thought of the GSI Creos linear compressor L10 but max psi is 20 and seems finicky, but its quiet (briefly tested an L7) and wattage is low (60ish). I also entertained the thought of saving up my money and buying a silentaire 8 gall (oil and all) which go for around 1500ish. Silence is $$$$$. That's where I am. Thanks for the vid.

    Solo una domanda Bill. I colori opachi (creayex airbrush color) si possono graffiare e cancellare? Se si con che cosa? con quai gomme a mano o elettriche? Grazie infinite

    • @TheAIRspace
      @TheAIRspace 22 дні тому

      The ability to erase or scratched is way more dependant on the binder used than the pigment. Also how thick you lay the paint has a dramatic affect. Very thin layers of paint erase much smoother and easier than thicker layers. I suspect when people tell me they have trouble erasing opaques is more a matter of using much thicker and complete covering layers.

    i need your advice.... I'm looking for a compressor to spray my 36x36" projects with varnish and other topcoats. I was looking at the CAT 8 gallon for $210. I have a mini gun and LVLP as well. is this the best idea or could one of these do? I have a Silentaire and Badger for my smaller work

    • @TheAIRspace
      @TheAIRspace Місяць тому

      which LVLP gun is it? And no this wont run any LVLP gun. The 8 gallon Cat will run the Iwata lph 80. And a few other smaller spray guns. 36x36 is a pretty large flat surface. If your talking varnish on canvas you can get away with a lot because the surface hides any irregularities. But if your needing an ultra smooth topcoat on a smooth surface It would be hard to get that much covered with the lph80 or smaller guns. But again if were talking canvas id have no issue using varnish out of the minigun on something that size.. I have done several 24x36 pieces with it.

    I had a JET AIR compressor for 10 years and did not use it much, but the tank rusted out, and you can't get a replacement tank. So, to add to your thoughts, make sure you get one with a stainless tank for aluminum tank if you can.

      not sure size and capacity of that compressor. But you can get replacement tanks. The question comes down to is it cost effective. If you can swing an aluminum tank thats great. there are not that many of them out there Definitely not in the very small compressor sizes.

      @@TheAIRspace is a 1 gal. The tank is welded to the housing. I can take the pump and everything off and fit a new tank to it, but it will not fit in the case it comes in. I was thinking about welding a new tank. I use my airbrush 3 times a year for touch-ups. I have a Dewalt 200 SPI 30 gal. It is just so loud to use at night

    Wow. My Grex is not even close to that gun. I have a heavy top and bottom and the bottom is not looking so good. The pattern looks like a barbell shape. This gun is sweet.

      Dumbell shape spray patterns have 3 causes... Air pressure too high, fan pattern to wide or fluid volume too low. Since with these types of guns we cannot adjust the fan pattern, and presume we only turn up air high enough to achieve atomization.. It leaves us with one problem. Like MANY MANY spray pattern airbrushes. The grex suffers from the wrong type of needle for a spray gun type performance. Two things happen when the needle protrudes through the nozzle that are fighting against the entire purpose of a fan pattern. One your volume is partially blocked from the needle, even when fully retracted it is still choking off volume. Two as fluid follows the air as it closes in around the needle you are pulling the paint to a smaller diameter (which is why long tapered needles produce finer lines generally speaking) Of course THAT is at odds with spraying a wider pattern. Lower volume and room for pigments of course is at odds with spraying heavier paints .. like basecoating with pearls and such. Or heavy primers. Things you might be wanting to use a "large coverage" for. Of course when i mention those glaring defects people get touchy. With that all said, by far this gun has outperformed every other fan pattern airbrush i have tried. Even the gsi creos 290/ iwata wont compare if high volume coverage is what you are looking for. The TH2 and this are close... the TH atomizes a little finer perhaps. This has a slightly heavier coverage. FWIW i think the Tritium is massively overpriced.

    A can at least confirm half of the argumentation. I have a low-end airbrush compressor with a 2 liter tank, supposed to deliver 23l/min, and it's not enough for what I do, mainly varnishing or big flats. E.G., I have just applied a patch of clear-coat on a car (7cm * 7cm), and at full throttle with a 0.5 needle, I can brush 10 seconds and have to wait 30 seconds before I get enough pressure again. So it may be good for detail paintings, were you never use full blow, but no more...

      Being an admin on a large airbrush group, and around this hobby/industry for 10 ish years now, I have seen time and time again people in that same situation. I ALSO have a small tanked 25 lm compressor sitting on my table right now. Using it with a detail airbrush on a small scale painting. And it’s fine for that. But woefully unable to do what I do most. I recently reviewed another compressor for airbrushes that’s much more powerful. And I showed the difference in what each could handle. (I guess semi recently it was over 3 months ago).
